In other fun news, last week I had the immense pleasure of appearing on the Blasters & Blades podcast for an evening of geeking out about scifi, space and the Amaranthe universe. Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOYOWfmsgCw

What did we talk about? Well...

  • doors to Narnia & time machines

  • the first SpecFic story I ever wrote

  • my most embarrassing reader interactions

  • why space battles and torturing characters are awesome

  • why Miriam is also awesome

  • subgenre rules and why they're dumb

  • **What's next for the Amaranthe universe after Riven Worlds

  • and much, much more

By the way, #MrJennsen says this is the best interview I've ever given.️ I'll let you judge for yourself.

Many thanks to JR Handley, Doc Cisca and Ranger Nick for letting me hang out with them for a little while. You can check out all episodes of the Blasters & Blades podcast on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgMOEeToeis4pjiheGa_kwA or on Anchor.Fm at https://anchor.fm/blasters-and-blades/.

Thanks to the article I wrote for The Debrief on warp drives, I was lucky enough to get to participate recently in a roundtable with mega-bestelling author Douglas Richards and dystopian sci-fi writer Eliza Green. The topic: “Is it more difficult to write science fiction in an age of exponential technological growth? To what extend does science fiction guide innovation?” We had a great time and a very lively discussion about those topics and many more, and you can check out the video on YouTube here.

Thank you all so much for sharing your thoughts in the character poll in the last newsletter. See the results here.

Finally, I wanted to let you know about two new updates to the Amaranthe Wiki. I’ve added the quotes used in the Part headings of the books, all on one page here. I’ve also added a long-requested item: Russian translations from all the books. You can see them here, but enter at your own risk - you only think Alex curses in English! You can find both the new pages under the “Novels & Short Stories” category.

Before I leave you, I’ve got another collection of books for your reading pleasure. Go here to choose from 42 FREE sci-fi ebooks from popular indie authors. Enjoy!

DOWNTOWN SEATTLE, EARTH

One Month After the End of the Metigen War

Reporter: “Excuse me, gentlemen—excuse me. Do you have a moment to answer a few questions? For the public?”

(Caleb Marano glances over his shoulder as he and Noah Terrage pass the man on the street.)

Caleb: “Sorry, we’re in a hurry.”

Reporter: “Please, I’ll only take a minute of your time.”

(Caleb stops and turns around. With a visible sigh Noah joins him.)

Caleb: “All right—a minute. As in one.”

Exclusive Interview With Admiral Miriam Solovy

Exclusive Interview With Admiral Miriam Solovy

It's the lovable, adorable Miriam Solovy doing what she enjoys most, gabbing with the press and the public! *melts under Miriam's glare*

Kidding. But though I'm picking on her, Miriam has actually turned out to be one of the most popular characters in Aurora Rising, ranking as a strong reader favorite - after Alex and Caleb of course, and a smidge ahead of Noah. So enjoy Miriam at her finest (with a special guest appearance by Richard).

Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything ) Transcript

Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything ) Transcript

I was honored to be invited to host an AMA on Reddit's /r/suggestmeabook and /r/sciencefiction last month. I had a terrific time chatting with everyone and hopefully provided some interesting answers to their questions.

In case you missed it, here is the transcript of the AMA, unaltered except for formatting and specific-to-Reddit details. It includes more details on my writing process, thoughts about writing and publishing, and juicy tidbits about Aurora Rising than I could ever consciously fit in one blog post, so I hope you enjoy!
